CTP
Definition: CTP, short for Closest to the Pin, is a disc golf contest or side award given to the player whose throw lands closest to the target on a designated hole. A CTP is most often used on a par 3 hole, but it can also apply to a marked approach shot, special event hole, or tournament bonus challenge. The winning throw usually must come to rest in bounds and may be measured from the disc to the pole, basket, or another clearly identified target point.
Why It Matters: CTP contests add a focused skill challenge to a round, league, tournament, or special event. They reward controlled accuracy rather than total score, giving players a chance to win a prize even if they are not leading the field. A good CTP shot requires clean release, proper disc selection, distance control, line shaping, and the ability to land near the basket without skipping, fading, or drifting too far away. Because the goal is precision, CTP holes often encourage players to balance aggression with control.
