Jabberwonkey

Definition: Jabberwonkey describes a rogue disc path unrelated to the thrower's form, motion, or intent, that departs the release point and journeys in remarkable defiance of physics in unexpected directions, sometimes changing course but never to the advantage of the player. The trajectory of the disc is so absurd and surprising that it frequently reduces the journeys in remarkable defiance to jabbering wildly and incoherently as the disc defines previously undefined flight paths. Jabberwonkey is the companion term for noodle arm, differing in that the disc's flight is so absurd as to lead observers to blame the disc, wind, and other external conditions rather than the thrower. Once the disc lands, the thrower often regains eloquence of speech in placing the blame for the errant shot on the supernatural powers associated with the Jabberwonkey.

Why It Matters: A Jabberwonkey, though rare and detested by the thrower, is enormously enjoyed by onlookers and often the subject of conversation long after a round has concluded. By including this term, DiscLula adds a little dose of disc golf humor to its Lexicon. Hopefully, this term, like the associated companion term noodle arm, can be avoided by the disc golf players reading the Lexicon, unless, of course, the opportunity arises to apply it to the throw of a card mate or competitor.

Term Observations:

Jabberwonkey is a combination of the concepts of jabbering (incoherent speaking) and wonky (crooked, off-center, askew).
A Jabberwonkey is more likely to occur with an understable disc or an understable disc golfer.
A Jabberwonkey can be thrown at any point on the course and land at any point on the course; however, a Jabberwonkey that lands in the basket is likely to be redefined as a brilliant controlled shot.
No known disc golf player has mastered the Jabberwonkey throw and none has tried.
The previous contention by a few male players that a Jabberwonkey is more likely to be thrown by a female disc golfer has been fully discredited.
