Tee Pad
Definition: A tee pad is the designated surface from which a player begins a disc golf hole. Tee pads are commonly made of concrete, artificial turf, rubber, pavers, compacted stone, or natural earth. A well-designed tee pad provides enough length, width, traction, and level space for the player to establish a stance, perform a run-up or X-step, plant, brace, throw, and follow through safely.
Why It Matters: Tee pads affect footing, balance, confidence, throwing form, power, accuracy, and safety. A level, durable, slip-resistant tee pad allows the player to concentrate on the intended line rather than worrying about footing. A pad that is short, narrow, uneven, worn, wet, or obstructed can disrupt the run-up, restrict movement, alter timing, and increase the risk of slipping or injury. The pad’s position and orientation also help establish the intended starting point, fairway direction, and challenge of the hole.

- Course designers consider drainage, shade, erosion, slope, surrounding obstacles, and the direction of play when positioning a tee pad.
