Throwing Mechanics

Throwing Mechanics are the coordinated body movements that allow a disc golf player to generate, transfer, and direct energy into the disc. They include stance, footwork, balance, weight shift, brace, hip and shoulder rotation, arm movement, grip, release, and follow through. Good Throwing Mechanics do not depend on maximum effort; they use proper positioning, timing, and sequence so the entire body works together to produce a controlled and repeatable throw.

Throwing Mechanics affect power, distance, accuracy, release angle, nose angle, spin, and consistency. Efficient mechanics allow energy to move from the ground through the legs, hips, torso, arm, and into the disc. Poor mechanics can cause rounding, off-axis torque, early releases, griplock, nose-up throws, lost distance, and unnecessary stress on the shoulder, elbow, back, or knee. With sound mechanics, a player can throw farther and more accurately while using less effort and reducing the risk of injury.
